about
Backstory was founded in October 2019 and conceived as an opportunity to leverage his relationships and award-winning experience to consult on the design, development and strategic programs for a diverse array of brands, artists, and experts.
Prior to starting Backstory in 2019, Thomas Ferguson developed digital programs, live events, non-traditional partnerships and products for MasterChef, Endemol Shine Group, John Varvatos, Carolina Herrera, TimePlay, Little Cinema, Vampire.Pizza and many more.
He was named as one of the "40 under 40" by License Global Magazine and served as VP of Licensing Partnerships at Endemol Shine North America, where he was responsible for securing multi-million dollar partnerships across consumer products, publishing, e-commerce, immersive experiences, and live events for TV shows such as Black Mirror, MasterChef, and MasterChef Junior.
As a pioneer and market leader in immersive entertainment, Ferguson was the business and creative lead for first-of-their-kind brand extensions like the MasterChef Cruise, EatWith MasterChef, and the MasterChef Junior Live tour. He produced the Black Mirror: Nosedive board game in collaboration with Funko and Asmodee, and the cookbook “MasterChef Junior Bakes!” in collaboration with Clarkson Potter - both of which were nominated for Licensing International awards.
Before joining Endemol Shine North America, Ferguson was the lead consulting designer for the creative agency Focus Group West, where he led client-facing design and product launch services for brands such as John Varvatos, Carolina Herrera, and BCBG eyewear. He also consulted on Disney's first e-commerce sales endeavor for fan club, D23.
He lives in Los Angeles with his hubby and their two dogs, Javi and Jack Lemmon.
